Art & Soul are Listening

Art & Soul are a user-led arts group that work under the ethos of Art for Wellbeing, which is a creative development programme focused on working with adults with mental health experiences.

The group work with Cartwheel Arts to develop artistic skills and explore ways to improved wellbeing through their own artistic practice. They are a diverse and exciting mix of talented artists who share their experiences in the hope of reaching others who may benefit from creating art for their wellbeing.

“Listen to the ancestors, to spirit, to the trees, to the animals. Listen to all those forces that come and speak to us”

– Sobonfu Somé (African Wisdom for Every Day)

With funding and support from the Emotional Health & Wellbeing Network (Rochdale), Art & Soul have spent 8 weeks exploring the theme of Listening. The pieces created encapsulate listening from within as a meditative practice as well as listening to our favourite music that moves and invigorates us.

Listening is a huge part of our work and mental health in general. Being listened to and listening to one another can have a transformative impact on our wellbeing.

An exhibition of Art & Soul's work is now showing in Heywood Sports Village foyer until July 2022.
